promiSes..

It's impossible to count the number of promises that have been made and then broken. Many people are sincere when they make their promises. So, why do they break them? Because people change. But God never changes...

Hebrews 6:13-20

As far as the Jews are concerned, Abraham is the father of their race. Many hundreds of years before Jesus was born, God promised Abraham that He would be blessed through him.

It must have been quite difficult for Abraham to believe how such a thing could be possible since he and his wife were childless. But Abraham believed in God. Then, after Issac was born and Abraham had proved to be obedient in willing to offer God His son, God again made an oath to His promise to strengthen Abraham's faith. He is still the same unchanging God and we can safely put our hope in Him. Our hope in Christ is like an anchor for our soul. Just as an anchor holds a ship safely in position, our hope in Christ guarantees our safety. Ships' anchors go down to the seabed but our anchor has been taken up to heaven by Jesus Himself where it is held in place by God. You couldn't get more secure than that!

If we place all our hopes and our future in the promises of people, we'll be disappointed because both people and circumstances change. But whatever the circumstances, God never changes. He guarantees our salvation, peace, guidance and joy when we trust in Him.
